Eunant

Lake Vyrnwy

Fabulous self-catering Eunant House, set in the idyllic landscape of its own lakeside valley in the Berwyn hills right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park

Sleeps 15 in comfort

with very spacious living areas, garden & grounds

Surrounded by absolutely stunning scenery, in a valley of its own.

The Eunant Stream flows in waterfalls from the Berwyn Hills through deciduous woodlands and meadows around the house to Lake Vyrnwy. This beautiful and intimate nature reserve is easily accessed yet has all of Snowdonia on the doorstep; fantastic walking and all the best activities that gorgeous North Wales has to offer.

Eunant is a large handsome Victorian stone-built farmhouse with private grounds & garden.

Built just up from the lake at the same time as the spectacular Lake Vyrnwy dam, to relocate the now submerged Eunant Hall. A wonderful location, nationally known as a nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest, a walker's paradise with easy access to Snowdonia, the Berwyns, Cheshire & Shropshire, with so many options for local biking, lake sailing, kayaking & fishing. This is perfect ornithology country, between the open hills, the deciduous woodland planted by the RSPB & the mature Victorian lakeside landscaping including the tallest trees in Wales!

Though it's a peaceful private haven, it's still only 4 miles to the nearest pub food and the fine restaurant at the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and just beyond to the village shop.

We look forward to hearing from you and making you very welcome at Eunant,

our fabulous self-catering house at Lake Vyrnwy

Bronwen & Andy Baylis

The immediate locality

We are surrounded by absolutely stunning scenery. The lively Eunant stream flows past the grounds, with pretty rockpools and waterfalls, coming down from the heathery slopes of the Berwyns. All around are beech woods and broadleaf environmental reforestation, with open hills just beyond, offering excellent local walks. Around the lake it is particularly good, a full circuit is a great days walk with pub lunch half way at the hotel by the dam. By bike its an easy hour and a half, or you can hire a kayak or sailing dingy to get on the water itself. Day tickets are available for lake fishing for trout and salmon, including boat hire. For mountain bikers there are great forestry trails all around the locality. Our local peak Aran Fawddwy, highest of the Berwyns (29 feet short of being a Munro!), offers a fabulous ridge walk with enormous views over the the whole of North Wales.

North Wales on the doorstep

Eunant is perfectly situated. Easy access from so much of the UK (4 hours from London, 2 from the Midlands) puts you within reach of all that gorgeous North Wales has to offer. Less than half an hour away is the sailing centre on Bala lake, and just beyond is the National Whitewater centre at Llyn Celyn. The moorland road above the house leads to the equally beautiful Mawddwy valley, and the charming old town of Dolgellau at the foot of Cadair Idris. In an hour you could be on the wide sandy beaches of Barmouth, or heading up coast to Harlech castle or the unique Italianate village of Portmerion. Or soon you could be starting an ascent of Snowdon or the Glyders. There are so many options here, is a week long enough? Luckily, its easy to come back for more!

Software: Microsoft Office

How to get there:

from the M54, the east & south-east:

Follow the Shrewsbury bypass to the last roundabout and turn left on the A458 toward Welshpool, after 2 miles turn right onto the B4393. This actually goes all the way to Lake Vyrnwy, but often joins with larger roads (A495 through Llansantffraid, A490 through Llanfyllin). There are many turn-offs but all are marked with the special brown road signs for 'Lake Vyrnwy'. Some are a bit unexpected so keep your eyes peeled for these signs all the way. When you get to Llanwddyn, continue to the dam. You can go either direction round the lake road, looking out for the small turning up the Eunant valley signed for Dinas Mawddwy. We are a few hundred yards up on the left, the only house, you can't miss it.

from the A483, the north:

Head south on the A5 and follow the Oswestry bypass toward Welshpool. Just after the bypass turn right and shortly left on the A495 as far as Llansantffraid, where you turn right onto the B4393 with a brown Lake Vyrnwy sign. You have linked with the route from Shrewsbury so continue as above.

the scenic routes from the south:

Some would take the M5 and M54 as above but if you prefer the A roads aim for Welshpool. Follow the signs for the town centre and at the central traffic lights turn left up the main street. At the roundabout go straight on the A490. Apart from a brief right then left on the A495, the A490 takes you through Llanfyllin to the left turn for Lake Vyrnwy. Continue as above.
