• at the heart of the Annapurnas, this fabulous mountain arena is known as the ‘throne room of the gods’ • 9 nights in village & mountain lodges, this is the only short trek to get right in among the peaks, an accessible taste of everything good about the Nepal Himalayas: villages, rivers, rhododendron forests & stunning peaks
|

Surrounded entirely by all the dramatic Annapurna peaks, and lying at a relatively low elevation allowing a direct approach through gorgeous foothills and stunning gorges with many waterfalls,
the Sanctuary entirely deserves its reputation.
It has everything that is so rewarding about Nepal trekking: the beautiful terraced farmland villages of the lovely Gurung people, lush forested foothills rising through bamboo wildlife habitats, and of course, mountains - so many beautiful mountains.
Through the only gap in this great circle of Annapurnas, alongside the mountain torrent of the Modi Khola, this trek gradually winds its way to the incredible spectacle within.
From Pokhara we head for the most beautiful villages of the Gurung area, with rhododendron ridge views of the peaks ahead. Then through tall pine and bamboo forests, beside crashing waterfalls, we rise gradually over two days. The sudden entrance to the sanctuary is breathtaking. This is the most perfect mountain arena in the Himalaya; around the huge south face of Annapurna an unbroken line of stunning peaks completely surrounds us.
We stay 3 nights inside to enjoy it to the full,
before taking another even shorter return route to relaxing lakeside Pokhara. |
