The view from Mera is one of nature's most immaculate designs - Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kangchenjunga, Ama Dablam;
the very epi-centre of the high Himalaya.
But getting there is never technically demanding;
its perfect for aspiring Himalayan mountaineers, or those with only high trekking experience.
Our approach route to Mera is the only one to give really sound acclimatization, and it is undoubtedly the most rewarding of all approaches in Nepal: the Pangkongma La into the beautiful unspoilt forests of the Hinku valley and the amazing Surkie ridge path, suspended between fantastic views.
Don't take short cuts at altitude, its not worth it.
Our acclimatization programme for the final stages is also perfected over years of experience, making sure everyone is on top form for the final push. From base, we combine acclimatization ascents of surrounding peaks with training sessions on self-arrest, ice axe and crampon technique. Then we set up high camp, an incredible location for the sunset on the massive Himalaya. This allows us to reach the summit early next day, when the conditions are most stable and clear.
A spare day ensures against the weather. You'll inevitably be planning your next peak on our short return to Lukla by the Zatrawa La. |
