• the most exciting trekking peak in the Everest range, the perfect free-standing peak alongside the awesome south face of Lhotse • the classic climb: glacier to ramp to stunning ridge ascent to summit • acclimatization on the Cho La pass • great accommodation in mountain lodges except for high camp
|
| |
This is the classic Khumbu climb: a scrambled start on to an intricate glacier crossing, a fixed rope ascent of a steep ramp onto a winding ice ridge hanging in free space, vast glaciers in deep valleys on all sides. And the summit itself - views of majestic Makalu rising over ice ridges ahead, the spires of Ama Dablam behind, and dominating everything: the colossal breathtakingly sheer face of Lhotse.
Mountaineers dreams are made of this.
And none of it is technically demanding; some high trekking experience, a good set of lungs and a steady head for heights - well teach you the rest. Weve added the perfect acclimatization approach (as you would expect from knowing these mountains so well) - first up to Gokyo lakes and ascents of its famous viewpoints - Everest in all its glory. Then we take the crossing of the Cho La as the perfect location to get the feel of using axe and crampons, stunning scenery no distraction, maximizing our acclimatization. A short rest and an ascent of Chukhung Ri completes our training and we head for high camp and an early start for the climb.
As always, a weather contingency day is built in to the itinerary. We combine high camping and excellent Khumbu lodges - the best of all worlds. |
