Not only does the northern Rongai route avoid the crowds on the other side of the mountain, it also allows the most gradual and even paced ascent of this amazing freestanding mountain.

We trek in through farmland and lush forest where there is more chance of game viewing than on any other Kili route, and out onto unique open paramo-like moorland.

We have added a perfect acclimatization rest day at the beautiful Mawenzi Tarn beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi peak. This gives us a massive advantage to reach the summit and really enjoy our climb (far more than those trying to do it in 1, even 2 days less). We set out by night to reach the crater rim and the famous Uhuru summit by the early light of dawn. The views far across the plains of Africa are truly spectacular and there's time to savour our success before our descent.
