• the highest peak in South America, second after Everest of the 'seven summits', and definitely the highest trekking peak in the world.

Aconcagua is a mountain of extreme contrasts. Its south side is nearly 3 kilometres of sheer rock, hanging glaciers and almost constant avalanches from precarious vertical seracs - an extreme challenge which attracts the world's best mountaineers. To the north west, however, is what is called the 'normal route', a very accessible, non-technical route all the way to the main north summit, the highest point in the southern hemisphere. What is needed to climb Aconcagua this way is a good set of lungs and a bucket-full of determination. And, of course, the benefit of a perfected schedule of acclimatisation. Terra Firma have more experience than anyone at high altitude. We maximise our clients potential through perfectly timed ascents, and our success rate on major peaks speaks for itself. On Aconcagua the weather is the other major factor so we also maximise the contingency time built into the climb to allow for this. Teams are always led by one of our very experienced western climbing leaders, supported by our english-speaking Argentine guides with their extensive knowledge of the mountain and its unique conditions. The overall experience of climbing here is excellent: great food (& wine), astounding landscape, and a very thorough mountaineering professionalism.
Mostly camping with all meals included; some hosteria meals not included. |
