The essential Peru, all in a fabulous 10 day trip!
We fly in to Cusco and and drive straight into the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first two nights are based at Ollantaytambo, staying at the delightful old railway hotel to visit the Inca ruins and take a day hike to the unique Inca village of Huilloc.
Then we take the train to Macha Picchu itself, for a whole day to explore the fabulous ruins of the ancient city. This is probably the most inspiring site in the world, long sought by the conquistadores, with rumours of vast mountains of gold hidden here. They never found the city, or the gold.
We take the evening train from here to the beautiful city of Cusco, and have two nights here exploring its unique Inca sites including the awe-inspiring interlocking stones of Saksayhuaman.
Then we take the short flight to the Amazon headwaters far below and take a short boat trip to our delightful lodge on the river Madre de Dios. Here we stay in individual bungalows with all facilities and are taken out by expert guides on jungle trails and boat trips to see the incredible diversity of wildlife and plants of the surrounding area: monkeys, tortoises, exotic birds, maybe a jaguar, the local �parrot lick�, wide Sandoval lake, caiman and a high jungle canopy walk - right in amongst the wildlife. An unbelievably incredible 10 day trip. |
