• coral reefs in the sky, the scintillating pale colours of the Dolomites are a landscape of legends.
|
| |
| The Dolomites are the remains of an ancient tropical sea bed thrust up by the movement of the earth's plates. The cliffs that now stand above the surrounding alpine pastures of Northern Italy, are carved into separate groups by glaciers long gone, and sculpted into fantastic shapes by erosion, changing colour with the light. As a landscape to trek through it is simply amazing, easy enough trails through wild flower meadows into natural amphitheatres of scintillating rock. Our route connects the best of the central groups linking excellent rifugios, and meeting up with our vehicle support every day to restock. We start our walk in the Di Sesto group, and move west to the fabulous Alpe di Fanes. On through the Puez and Sella groups we end with an ascent of Marmolada by cable car for an incredible last view. |
