• the fabulous Buddhist kingdom on the edge of the Tibet plateau • including the world's 2 highest road passes.

| Ladakh is just made for biking, a phenomenal landscape of vivid coloured rock marked evocatively with Buddhist chortens, towering monasteries, beautiful valleys. This route is the classic traverse on the remote route on the edge of the great Changtang plain that stretches across western Tibet. It takes us over awesome passes with unimaginably distant views, through amazing canyons to hidden valleys where yak herders pitch their summer yurts. First we fly into Leh Bazaar in the heart of Ladakh for some excellent acclimatisation rides to gradually and thoroughly adapt to the altitude, visiting the surrounding monasteries, and leading up to the awesome downhill from the Khardung La, the highest motorable pass in the world. Then we take on the traverse, six days (including the 2nd highest m.p.i.t.w.) to feel out the vastness of the plateau and experience the gradual return to the habitable world on the other side, each pass opening views of a greener valley beyond, until we finally reach the great forested slopes of Manali. Time to rest, and relive every awesome moment. |
