the sherpa pension fund
The spf is a small charity started by the directors of Terra Firma to help Himalayan staff when they retire from trekking work. No government and very few personal pension schemes exist here. Terra Firma does its level best for its own staff, but we have long been concerned about the overall situation.
As retirement age is bound to be early in this work, the spf looks to provide long-term, setting them up with new trades or skills, so they can continue to provide for their families. Its available to all ex-trek staff in the Himalaya.
Further details will be updated via this website. Contributions are always welcome, but right now you should join trek2011, or at least sponsor friend or family to join.
Everybody who has ever been on a Himalayan trek will tell you what uniquely wonderful people the Sherpas are. They are always helping, always cheerful; they simply make your trek for you.
This is your chance to help us to help them in return.
